NUMBER ONE! Start by asking those in your network for leads. You may not be able to count on those in your exact same industry, since you are both looking to hire from the same pool, but what about those who offer you services? They probably work with many other companies just like yours, and chances are they hear things. They may of a perfect candidate, or a good place to look.

NUMBER TWO! Let them do the leg work for you. Offer a small finder’s fee, or incentive, or just count on your friendship and ask for help. However you decide to do it, the more people who know what you are looking for, the more potential ways there are for you to find it. Be very clear on what you want. If the job has requirements, outline them, otherwise, you may end up with friends of friends who just need a job, instead of that just right person, who can help you reach the next level!

NUMBER THREE! Listen, put your ear to the ground. Ask around and pay attention to the answers. You may find the perfect candidate just biding time in a another job. By feeling out your contacts, you may get all kinds of information about who may be looking for a bigger challenge.

Remember that successful networking is a two way street and always ask what you can do in return for the help that is offered. You never know, you may know where to find something they are looking for, and being useful is the best way to be valuable in the networking economy.
